Niels Jak is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, holding roles within the Constitutional and Administrative Law department, Kooijmans Institute, and Public Contract Law. His research focuses on the intersection of public and private law, particularly administrative organization law and governance by semipublic organizations. He teaches courses on administrative law fundamentals, legal protection against the state, and public law principles.
Research interests include public task management, legal frameworks for semipublic entities, and constitutional aspects of administrative governance. His work bridges theoretical legal analysis with practical administrative challenges, emphasizing the balance between citizen rights and governmental operational capacity.
He has been awarded the Young Talent Award Bestuursrecht for 2019-2021 by Wolters Kluwer. Ancillary roles include teaching at Grotius Academie, contributing to JBplus (SDU), and serving as a substitute judge at the Centrale Raad van Beroep. Recent publications address constitutional remedies, administrative contract enforcement, and the role of the Algemene wet bestuursrecht in legal practice.
