Nicole Wermers

Nicole Wermers is a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, where she teaches in the Department of Sculpture with a focus on Ceramics and Glass. Her artistic practice critically explores the public realm, material hierarchies, and the interaction between the (female) body and urban infrastructure.

Her research and artistic work spans sculpture, installation, and public interventions, with a strong conceptual focus on overlooked gestures and social rituals in shared spaces. She investigates how design, architecture, and materiality shape behavior and perception, particularly through a feminist lens.

Nicole Wermers maintains an active international presence through commissions, exhibitions, and representation by leading galleries such as Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, Produzentengalerie Hamburg, and Jessica Silverman Gallery. Her studio is located in the Altbau building at the Academy, and she is supported by artistic collaborator Leonhard Heinik.
