Nicole Walters

Dr. Nicole Walters is a Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She is also a dual-certified women's health nurse practitioner and psychiatric nurse practitioner, as well as a licensed midwife with over 20 years of clinical experience in psychiatric nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, and midwifery in the U.S. and internationally.

Her research and clinical focus lies in women’s mental health, particularly reproductive psychiatry and maternal-infant health, alongside exploring technology innovations like AI and VR for nursing education. She emphasizes resilience-building in nursing practice and the first 1000 days of life mental health for infants.

Dr. Walters’ publications address Certified Nurse Educator credentialing, perinatal mental health disorders, breastfeeding initiatives, and AI’s role in clinical judgment. Her work integrates faith-based approaches and telehealth solutions to address healthcare disparities and improve maternal-child outcomes.

Dr. Walters leads new program design, faculty mentoring initiatives, and nursing education reform. She founded NestCalm, a multi-state telehealth clinic providing perinatal mental health and primary care services, and advocates for women’s mental health globally.

Her leadership extends to roles in the National League for Nursing, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, American Psychiatric Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International, alongside volunteer work for Resolve, Postpartum Support International, and Pregnancy Resource Centers.
