Jim Tudhope

Dr. Jim Tudhope, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is an Assistant Professor in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) concentration at Kent State University's College of Nursing, where he has been a full-time faculty member since 2019. He also serves as Program Director of the Integrated Community Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner Fellowship and as Medication Clinic Coordinator at a community mental health agency, integrating clinical leadership with academic scholarship.

His research focuses on the development, design, and evaluation of APRN fellowship programs to improve early career transitions in community mental health, with specific attention to role development, retention, and patient outcomes. He also investigates barriers to implementing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorders, aiming to expand access and clinician support. His work bridges clinical practice and academic innovation in psychiatric nursing.

Dr. Tudhope is a recipient of the DNP Scholar Award from the College of Nursing, funded by the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation (now Peg’s Foundation), which supports the development of doctorally prepared PMH-APRNs to lead mental health system transformation. He has over two decades of clinical experience as a registered nurse (since 2001), licensed professional counselor (since 2008), and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (since 2013), with prior roles at Summa Health System, Akron General (Cleveland Clinic), and Portage Path Behavioral Health.
