Margaret Emerson, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing and an ANCC board-certified Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She holds academic roles in nursing education and clinical leadership, including serving as Director of Workforce Development for Advanced Practice Providers in UNMC’s Department of Psychiatry since 2019. Her clinical expertise includes integrated care delivery, maternal postpartum depression, and leveraging mobile health technologies to improve mental health access.
Dr. Emerson earned her BSN (2006), MSN (2011), and DNP (2017) from UNMC. Prior to her academic career, she worked in critical care as an RN and transitioned to psychiatric nurse practice in 2011. She has pioneered integrated care models in primary care clinics and served as a consultant/advisor on mental health initiatives.
Her research focuses on mobile health applications for mental health management, with notable grants including a $492,191 NIH-funded project (2023–2025) developing an interprofessional integrated care training hub. She has published extensively on topics like depression app efficacy, telehealth education, and perinatal mental health screening.
Key contributions include advancing nurse practitioner-led programs in integrated care and advocating for evidence-based digital health solutions. Emerson’s work emphasizes addressing health disparities through technology and interprofessional collaboration.
