Nicole Patton Terry, Ph.D., is the Olive & Manuel Bordas Professor of Education at Florida State University's School of Teacher Education and Director of the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR). She previously served as an Associate Professor of Special Education at Georgia State University. Her research focuses on literacy and language development among vulnerable populations, including Black children, children in poverty, and those with disabilities. Terry holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University (2004) and has been a special education teacher. She leads major initiatives like The Village at FCRR and the Urban Child Study Center.
Her professional roles include serving as President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading and as a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and American Education Research Association. She contributed to the National Academies’ Committee on the Future of Education Research. Her work is supported by grants from the Institute of Education Sciences, National Institutes of Health, Spencer Foundation, and William T. Grant Foundation.
