Nicole Gottdenker is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. She holds a BA in Biology from Colgate University, DVM from Tuskegee University, MS in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida, and PhD in Ecology from the University of Georgia. She is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
Her research examines vector-borne and zoonotic diseases through ecological and evolutionary lenses. Core interests include impacts of environmental change on disease ecology, multi-host vector-borne pathogens, wildlife pathology, Chagas disease systems, and anthropogenic influences on disease emergence. She leads investigations into wildlife-parasite interactions across disturbance gradients.
Gottdenker's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on viral ecology (particularly Ebolavirus and distemper viruses), parasite evolution, innovative diagnostic techniques, and land-use impacts on disease transmission. Her work spans diverse taxa from bats and marine mammals to poultry and reptiles, often integrating molecular, pathological, and ecological approaches.
