Nicole Burrowes serves as Assistant Professor of History at Rutgers University's School of Arts and Sciences, with additional appointments as Residential Faculty Fellow in the Honors College, Faculty Affiliate in Africana Studies, Assistant Director of the Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies, and Faculty Affiliate in the Center for Latin American Studies.
Her research focuses on African Diaspora Studies with specialization in 20th century Caribbean and African-American history. Key areas include social movements, racial capitalism, Black Internationalism, and the politics of solidarity. Her current book project Seeds of Solidarity: African-Indian Relations and the 1935 Labor Rebellions in British Guiana (under contract with Cambridge University Press) examines working-class movements during economic and environmental crises while expanding frameworks of 'overlapping diasporas.'
Burrowes' scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with Black radical thought, Caribbean labor history, and transnational solidarity movements. Her publications span academic journals (Souls, NACLA Report), edited volumes (Columbia University Press, Cornell University Press), and public scholarship platforms (Teaching Tolerance, Atlanta Black Star). Recurring themes include Walter Rodney's legacy, Caribbean feminist epistemologies, and inter-minority coalition building.
