Dr. Leslie M. Alexander is a renowned Professor of History at Rutgers University and Co-director of the RCHA seminar, "Black Power and White Supremacy." She earned her Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in History from Cornell University and Stanford University, respectively.
Her research focuses on early African American and African Diaspora history, particularly slavery, Black political thought, and resistance movements. Her work explores the transnational impact of the Haitian Revolution and the afterlives of slavery in the Atlantic World.
Dr. Alexander's scientific awards include the National Council for Black Studies Prize, Ford Foundation Fellowships, and University of Oregon Diversity Awards. She has served as President of the Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora and sits on editorial boards for journals like the Journal of African American History.
Her most recent publications analyze Black internationalism, transnational consciousness, and slavery’s legacy. These works span disciplines like Caribbean Studies, Gender Studies, and Political History, with sub-fields including Atlantic World Dynamics, Decolonial Theory, and Racial Identity Formation.
