Dr. Nicolas Rennuy serves as Special Professor of International and European Social Security Law at Tilburg Law School, Tilburg University, appointed effective October 1, 2025. Concurrently, he maintains his position as Senior Lecturer at York Law School, University of York. This dual appointment, established through the Gak Institute, positions him at the intersection of EU legal frameworks and national social security implementation.
Rennuy received his PhD from Ghent University before holding a lectureship at Cambridge's Murray Edwards College. His academic journey reflects deep engagement with transnational legal systems, culminating in his current focus on EU social security architecture.
His research pioneers interdisciplinary connections between European social security law, labor regulations, private international law, and tax frameworks. By analyzing how these fields interact—particularly regarding migrant workers' rights—he develops more rigorous evaluations of the complex rules linking national welfare systems. Current work emphasizes EU-Dutch social security system interactions within Tilburg's 'Connecting Responsible Organizations' research program.
Rennuy actively bridges academia and policy through advisory roles for the European Commission and British Parliament, plus editorial responsibilities for the European Journal of Social Security. This practical engagement ensures his research addresses real-world implementation challenges in evolving EU social security landscapes.
