Nicolas André is a CNRS Research Staff Scientist at the Institute for Research in Astrophysics and Planetology (IRAP) since 2008 and currently a researcher at ISAE-SUPAERO (since March 2024). He also serves as the Project Scientist and Executive Director of the French space plasma data center (CDPP) since 2020. His multidisciplinary work bridges planetary science, plasma physics, and space instrumentation.
His research focuses on planetary space plasmas and comparative magnetospheric physics, specifically plasma dynamics in planetary environments. Recent efforts at ISAE-SUPAERO target space weathering of lunar, Martian, and Venusian surfaces/atmospheres. He leads the Space Systems for Planetology and Applications (SSPA) research group, developing instrumentation for missions like Juice and BepiColombo.
André pioneered the CALIPSO platform at IRAP—a facility for space instrument prototyping, calibration, and environmental testing. He coordinates Europlanet space weather initiatives (2015–present) and CDPP's virtual observatory for planetary science data.
