Marianna Felici is a Senior Research Scientist at Boston University (BU) since 2017, specializing in planetary and space physics. Her work focuses on ionospheric structures, giant planet magnetospheres, and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling. She holds a Ph.D. from University College London (2016) and degrees from La Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy.
- Education: B.S./M.S. in Physics/Nuclear and Particle Physics (La Sapienza, Italy); Ph.D. in Planetary and Space Physics (UCL, UK).
- Research: Investigates Martian ionospheric responses to dust storms and solar events using MAVEN/ROSE data. Active in Cassini mission analyses of Saturn’s magnetosphere.
- Affiliations: Member of the Cassini CAPS science team, MAVEN mission, and MSL (Curiosity rover) team.
Her research interests include plasma composition in planetary magnetospheres and detector technologies. Recent work includes modeling Martian ionospheric dynamics through machine learning and analyzing space weather events at Mars.
Publications span studies of Saturn’s ionospheric outflow, Martian ionospheric layers, and interplanetary space weather effects. Her work bridges experimental observations and theoretical models to advance understanding of planetary atmospheres.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with BU’s Dept. of Astronomy and contributes to multi-mission analyses of planetary magnetospheres.
