Nick Winges-Yanez serves as Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Critical Disability Studies at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, University of Texas at Austin.

• PhD in Social Work and Social Research, Portland State University

Research Interests

His work critically examines intersections of disability, illness, and identity through queer and feminist lenses, emphasizing social justice frameworks in medical and social contexts. Research spans disability theory, embodied experiences of illness, and systemic barriers in healthcare and education.

Teaching

Currently instructs UGS 303: Queer/Feminist Illness & Disability (Spring 2024), meeting Tuesdays/Thursdays 12:30PM-2:00PM, exploring theoretical and lived experiences at these interdisciplinary crossroads.
