Nick Roseboro is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Architecture Department at Barnard College and the Endowed Chair in Environmental Architecture and Sustainable Design at Sarah Lawrence College. He co-founded Architensions, an international research and design studio operating between Brooklyn and Rome, which investigates the commons and collectivity through cross-scalar projects including exhibitions, curatorial initiatives, and theoretical publications.
His educational background features a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz and Contemporary Music from The New School and a Master of Science in Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), establishing a foundation for interdisciplinary practice.
Roseboro's research redefines architectural production through three interconnected pillars: domesticity and housing systems (critiquing traditional frameworks like the 'American Dream'), labor-leisure tensions in digital society, and innovative public space creation across diverse geographies. His methodology integrates curatorial practice and pedagogical experimentation to generate new cultural production forms, particularly focusing on how spaces foster collective identity in urban, suburban, and rural contexts.
Recent publications (2022-2024) reveal a trajectory examining playgrounds as reality laboratories, digital labor-leisure interfaces, and housing's role in family evolution—demonstrating consistent exploration of how spatial design mediates social relationships in contemporary life.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Architectural Record's Design Vanguard 2024 award
- Inclusion in Wallpaper* USA 400 (2024) as a defining figure in America's creative landscape
Roseboro maintains an active teaching portfolio across institutions including Syracuse University, Università Iuav di Venezia, and The New School, while his studio executes funded projects like the Visioni Collettive Festival (2023) and Coachella installation (2022), indicating substantial research support. As a frequent guest critic, he extends mentorship beyond primary appointments.
Through Architensions, Roseboro leads a dynamic research collective producing work exhibited at AIA New York Center for Architecture and featured in international publications, fostering a collaborative environment where architectural design intersects with social theory and cultural critique to address pressing contemporary challenges.
