Dr Nick Makins is a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science. His research focuses on normative principles guiding action under uncertainty, with special attention to medical decision-making and metaethical frameworks. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics (2022), an MSc in Philosophy of Science (LSE), an MBBS in Medicine from UCL, and a BSc in Medical Sciences with Psychology.

His research interests include practical rationality, decision theory applications in medicine, and philosophy of science. He recently completed a project on 'Normative Principles and Uncertainty: A User’s Guide,' exploring how uncertain normative principles influence action. He previously held the Sowerby Lecturer position at King’s College London, contributing to the Philosophy & Medicine Project.
Dr Makins is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and participates in research groups like the Centre for Aesthetic, Moral and Political Philosophy and the Centre for Theoretical Philosophy at Leeds.
