معرفی
Nick Huang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English, Linguistics and Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of East Asian Linguistics. His research focuses on the interplay between linguistic experience, sentence processing, and grammatical rules, with particular emphasis on cross-linguistic syntax, psycholinguistics, and Singapore English variation. Huang's work combines experimental methods with corpus analysis and computational modeling to explore how grammatical knowledge is acquired and applied.
Research Interests:
- Cross-linguistic syntax of attitude verbs (e.g., 'think', 'want')
- Long-distance dependencies (e.g., wh-questions) in syntax/pragmatics
- Grammaticality illusions across languages
- Singapore English contact phenomena
Recent projects include a Language paper analyzing bridge effects using 640 English verbs, and an English World-Wide study on Singapore English parser adaptation. He co-teaches experimental syntax courses via the Virtual NYI program and collaborates with researchers like Jiajia Cai (Chaozhou linguistics) and Diogo Almeida (bridge verb experiments).
At NUS, he leverages lab facilities and corpora to foster a collaborative environment for East/Southeast Asian language research.
