Emily Manetta is a Professor of Linguistics and Director of the Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the Department of English Language and Literature within the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Manetta specializes in theoretical syntax with emphasis on Indic languages (Hindi-Urdu, Kashmiri, Romani). Her core research explores:
- Wh-questions and displacement at clausal peripheries
- Ellipsis phenomena and verb-second word orders
- Romani language endangerment in the Mediterranean
- Analysis of healthcare conversations through the Vermont Conversation Lab
She co-leads the Psychedelic Assisted Therapy Research Group and collaborates with the University of Memphis' Unknown Languages Research Group.

Her scholarly output (2009-2023) focuses on comparative syntax of South Asian languages, particularly Kashmiri and Hindi-Urdu.
