Nick Block is an Associate Professor of the Practice in German Studies at Boston College, specializing in German-Jewish intellectual history, Yiddish literature, and cultural transfers between German and Yiddish modernism. He holds a B.A. from the College of William and Mary and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
His research focuses on transnational cultural exchanges in German-Jewish and Yiddish modernism, with a current book project titled Schlepping Culture: The Jewish Renaissance between German and Yiddish, 1880-1940, supported by the Leo Baeck Institute Early Career Fellowship. He has also worked as a translator for PBS's Finding Your Roots and as an archivist at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.
Teaching interests include Modern Jewish Thought, Holocaust Representation, and German Literature History. His awards include the 2012 AATG-The German Quarterly Best Graduate Student Paper and the 2015 Leo Baeck Essay Prize.
