Nick Arnosti is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, he was an assistant professor at Columbia Business School. His research focuses on market design, with particular emphasis on giving away social goods such as affordable housing, public school seats, hunting licenses, hiking permits, and discounted tickets to events.
Dr. Arnosti received his PhD in Operations Research from Stanford University in 2016, where he was advised by Ramesh Johari and Paul Milgrom. He graduated from Williams College in 2011 with BAs in Mathematics and Computer Science. A native of Saint Paul, MN, he graduated from Saint Paul Central High School in 2007 and has returned to his hometown to pursue his academic career.
His research primarily centers around the allocation of public goods through lotteries and waitlists. He studies systems for allocating affordable housing, procedures used by school districts to assign students to public schools, and similar mechanisms for organ donation waitlists, immigration visas, and less weighty applications like recreational resource allocation.
