Nicholas Z. Muller is the Lester and Judith Lave Professor of Economics, Engineering, and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, holding joint appointments in the Tepper School of Business and Engineering and Public Policy Department. His research bridges environmental science and economics, focusing on quantifying pollution damages and designing market-based policy solutions.

Recent publications examine wildfire smoke disparities, hydrogen decarbonization, climate policy equity, and geographic resolution in environmental regulation. His work appears in top journals like Science, Nature, and American Economic Review, highlighting intersections between economic activity and environmental degradation.
Muller teaches undergraduate Sustainability Economics, PhD-level Microeconomics for engineers, and MBA courses on sustainable business practices. He serves as a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and contributes to municipal finance and environmental policy analysis.
