Research focuses on platelet signaling mechanisms during thrombus formation, emphasizing zinc's dual role as extracellular agonist and intracellular messenger. Key projects include:
- Zinc influx/outflux pathways in platelets
- Zinc-ROS signaling interplay
- Novel molecular tools for signaling analysis
- Autoantibody responses in autoimmune patients
Article trends show expertise in zinc biology, platelet activation, and thrombosis mechanisms. His work combines biophysical assays with molecular tool development.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
- Fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society
- British Heart Foundation grant recipient
Active in research supervision, Nick welcomes postgraduate students in platelet biology and has served on organizing committees for Zinc UK and Platelet Society meetings.
He leads the Biomedical Research Group and has organized the Zinc Zoom seminar series, demonstrating leadership in academic community building.
