معرفی
Dr. Vinod Vijayan is an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine with joint appointments in the Departments of Medicine-Thrombosis, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, and Pediatrics. He also serves as a Research Health Scientist at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and is a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research is centered on understanding the role of serine/threonine phosphatases in platelet and endothelial cell activation, with implications for thrombosis and cardiovascular disease.
Education:
- Ph.D. – University of Mumbai, India
- Postdoctoral Fellowship – Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, USA
- M.Sc. – The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India
- B.Sc. – University of Mumbai, India
Research Interests:
Dr. Vijayan's work delves into the molecular mechanisms governing platelet activation and endothelial exocytosis of prothrombotic proteins. He investigates how serine/threonine phosphatases regulate these processes, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets for thrombotic and inflammatory events in cardiovascular disease. His research spans signal transduction, integrin signaling, and protein-protein interactions in hemostasis and inflammation.
Publication Trends:
His recent publications (2020–2024) emphasize platelet dysfunction in sepsis, COVID-19, metabolic syndrome, and cancer. Key themes include fibrin formation, von Willebrand factor secretion, and the role of protein phosphatases in modulating platelet survival and thrombus formation. He frequently uses murine and swine models to study thromboinflammation and organ injury.
Professional Memberships:
- American Heart Association (AHA)
- American Society of Hematology (ASH)
- International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH)
Labs & Affiliations:
Dr. Vijayan is affiliated with the Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, where his lab focuses on translational studies in thrombosis and inflammation.
