معرفی
Dr Simon Calaminus is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hull, affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Hull York Medical School. He holds roles as Programme Director for the MSc in Pharmacology and Drug Development and teaches Phase 1 MBBS and Biomedical Science Pharmacology.
Education: BSc in Biochemistry and PhD in Platelet Biology from the University of Birmingham (2004–2007), supervised by Prof Steve Watson. Postdoctoral research at the Beatson Institute (2007–2012) under Prof Laura Machesky, focusing on platelet biology and cancer cell signaling.
Research Interests
Investigates platelet responses to agonists/inhibitors and external pollutants like microplastics. Techniques include platelet spreading, in vitro thrombus formation, FACS analysis, and Western blotting. Recent work explores hypoxia effects on platelet function and quantum dot biocompatibility.
Grants & Projects
- British Heart Foundation: £110k (2023–2025) studying hypoxia's role in prostacyclin-mediated platelet inhibition.
- Rosetrees Trust: £9k (2024) addressing microplastics as healthcare threats.
- Co-investigator on MRC/Wolfson imaging equipment grants (2024–2029).
Lab & Collaborations
Part of the Centre for Biomedicine, focusing on thrombosis, platelet signaling, and nanotechnology applications. Collaborates with industry and NHS experts for translational research.
