Nicholas LIU is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University, a position he has held since July 2022. Previously, he served as a Lecturer of Law at SMU (2019–2022), an Adjunct Faculty (2016–2019), and an Instructor at the Singapore Institute of Legal Education (2017–2018). He holds a J.D. (Summa Cum Laude) from SMU (2015) and a B.A. (First Class Honors) from the National University of Singapore (2010). His legal career includes roles as an Associate at WongPartnership LLP (2018–2019), Practice Trainee at WongPartnership (2018), Justices' Law Clerk at the Supreme Court of Singapore (2016–2018), and Deputy Public Prosecutor at Attorney-General's Chambers (2015).
His research focuses on Contract Law, Tort Law, Equity & Trusts, and Remedies, with particular emphasis on legal responses to emergencies, fiduciary duties, and technological impacts on legal frameworks. Recent work explores pandemic-related contract disputes and equitable compensation regimes. He teaches courses in Law of Torts, Singapore Legal System, and Legal Research and Writing.
Dr. Liu is a recipient of prestigious awards including the Wee Chong Jin Prize (2015), Kwa Geok Choo Scholarship (2012, 2014), and multiple moot court accolades, including Champion titles in the CIArb Arbitration Moot (2018) and Jessup International Law Moot (2014–2015).
His publications address doctrinal gaps in Singapore law, such as the need for a unified regime for changed circumstances in contracts and fiduciary duties in local governance. Ongoing research intersects technology law, e-commerce regulation, and private law innovations.
