Nicholas Fidelman

Nicholas Fidelman, MD is a Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and UCSF Mount Zion. He serves as the Director of Interventional Oncology. Dr. Fidelman received his medical degree from UCSF in 2002, completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency at UCSF (2007), and an Interventional Radiology fellowship (2008). His research focuses on improving outcomes and safety of interventional radiology procedures, particularly in interventional oncology, including Yttrium-90 radioembolization and chemoembolization for liver malignancies. He also investigates biliary interventions, such as percutaneous cholangiography and management of biliary complications post-liver transplantation.

Education and Training: Medical School at UCSF (2002), Internal Medicine Internship at St. Mary’s Medical Center (San Francisco), Diagnostic Radiology Residency and Interventional Radiology Fellowship at UCSF. Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology, Certificate of Additional Qualification in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Research interests span interventional oncology, hepatobiliary interventions, and imaging-guided therapies. He has authored over 30 publications, focusing on comparative studies of interventional radiology techniques. Key areas include radioembolization, chemoembolization, and outcomes analysis in liver-directed therapies.

Scientific Awards: 1999 Research Fellowship from the American Heart Association.

Professional Activities: Active in guideline development as part of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Appropriate Use Criteria panels for vascular and interventional radiology. Collaborates on multi-institutional studies evaluating therapeutic efficacy and safety.

Labs/Teams: Leads interventional oncology projects at UCSF, focusing on translational research and clinical trials for hepatocellular carcinoma and neuroendocrine tumor therapies.
