معرفی
Roles and Affiliations: Distinguished Professor Nicholas Dixon holds the position of Distinguished Professor at the University of Wollongong (UOW) in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience, part of the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health. He leads the Molecular Horizons facility and previously established UOW's Centre for Medical and Molecular Bioscience (2010). His primary affiliation is with UOW since 2006, after roles at ANU and Stanford University.
Education: PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Queensland (1978). Postdoctoral training included fellowships at ANU and Stanford University under Nobel laureate Arthur Kornberg.
Research Interests: Dr. Dixon focuses on bacterial DNA replication mechanisms, protein structure-function relationships, and molecular machines. Key areas include the bacterial replisome, sliding clamp inhibitors as antibiotic targets, and protein-protein interactions in molecular machines. His work integrates structural biology, enzymology, and single-molecule techniques to study replication dynamics and drug design.
Funding and Awards: Recipient of the Australian Research Council Australian Professorial Fellowship (2008). Over 70 grants listed, including ARC Discovery Projects, NIH funding, and infrastructure grants for facilities like X-ray crystallography and NMR. Recent grants focus on antibacterial drug development, replisome dynamics, and molecular visualization tools.
Supervision and Collaborations: Advisor to numerous PhD and Master's students in structural biology, DNA replication, and protein dynamics. Collaborations span institutions like KAUST, ANU, and international labs. Research teams include experts in NMR, microscopy, and computational biology.
Labs and Facilities: Academic leader of Molecular Horizons (2019), a molecular visualization facility. Previously managed the UOW Centre for Medical and Molecular Bioscience. Active in developing high-resolution imaging and biochemical tools for studying molecular machines.
