Nicholas J. Carlson is a Senior Lecturer in Clarinet and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Theatre and Music. He conducts the Symphonic Band and Pep Band, teaches clarinet and chamber music, and assists in band program administration.

As an active conductor and clarinetist, he serves as Music Director/Conductor of the University of Chicago Wind Ensemble and co-directs the Chicago Public Schools All-City Symphonic Band. He performs with major Midwest orchestras including Chicago Arts Orchestra, Symphony847, and Lake County Symphony Orchestra.
Professional affiliations include College Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Music Service Fraternity.
