Nicholas Bowman

Nicholas Bowman serves as Professor of Higher Education and Student Affairs in the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at the University of Iowa College of Education. He maintains active affiliations with the Center for Research on Undergraduate Education (CRUE), the Certificate in Institutional Research and Effectiveness program, and the Iowa Academy of Education, contributing to institutional research initiatives and policy development.

His academic foundation includes a BA in Psychology from UCLA, complemented by multiple University of Michigan graduate credentials: MA in Higher Education, PhD in Psychology and Education, Certificate in Culture and Cognition, and MA in Research Methodology. This interdisciplinary training informs his methodological rigor in educational research.

Dr. Bowman's research program investigates college student success through socioeconomic, diversity, and institutional lenses. He examines how social class, first-generation status, academic probation systems, and social networks influence retention and graduation outcomes, employing quasi-experimental designs and mixed-methods approaches to address equity gaps.
