His research specializes in maritime networks that structured socioeconomic life in the Roman Mediterranean and western Indian Ocean. He conducts fieldwork in Egypt, Italy, and India, analyzing material signatures of trade and multicultural port communities. Current projects include a computational sailing model and port assemblage analysis for tracing commercial evolution in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea from 30 BCE to 639 CE.
Recent publications reflect trends in maritime archaeology, focusing on Roman-era religious dedications in Egypt’s Isis temple, underwater survey techniques in Sicily, and cross-cultural interactions in ancient trade hubs. His work at the Berenike Project and Marzamemi Maritime Heritage Project underscores methodologies combining artifact analysis with modeling ancient mobility.
