Dr. Nicholas Bailey is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, combining expertise in Philosophy and maritime studies. He holds a Master Mariner's certificate and a doctorate in Philosophy from Oxford University. His research focuses on maritime sector challenges, including occupational health and safety, global economic processes, and seafarers' rights. Recent work addresses social justice in transnational contexts and maritime risk management.

Research interests span maritime safety, global labour dynamics, and social justice. He teaches courses on globalization, research methods, and equality in a globalized world. Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, he has examined numerous PhD dissertations. Previously, he served as Assistant Director at the Seafarers International Research Centre (SIRC) and held roles as a ship officer and academic fellow.
