Nichola Stuart is an Associate Researcher in Psychology at the School of Psychology, Social Work and Public Health at Oxford Brookes University. She holds a BA in Philosophy (UCL), BSc in Psychology (Birkbeck), MA in Linguistics, and PhD in Psycholinguistics (UCL). Her research focuses on language and literacy development, developmental assessment, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as Dyslexia, Developmental Language Disorder, and Developmental Coordination Disorder.
Dr Stuart has contributed to the development of assessment tools like the Writing Quality Scale (WQS) and the Handwriting Legibility Scale (HLS), collaborating with organizations like Dyslexia Action and Hogrefe Ltd. Her work emphasizes the evaluation of writing skills, typing proficiency, and motor performance in educational settings. She has been involved in grants, including the Research Excellence Award for writing assessment tools, and has published extensively on topics like inhibition skills in DCD and phonological processing in SLI.
