Marketa Caravolas is an Associate Professor in Psychology at Bangor University, Wales, UK. She earned her PhD in Psychology from McGill University (1996) after initial training as a teacher and clinician in Montreal, focusing on children with learning disorders. Since 1997, she has led academic and research efforts at Bangor, directing the Miles Dyslexia Centre (2008–2014). Her work spans literacy development, dyslexia, cross-linguistic studies, bilingualism, and phonological/spelling development.

- Literacy development in typical and atypical populations
- Cross-linguistic investigations of language-general vs. language-specific factors
- Creation of standardized test batteries for Czech, Slovak, English, Spanish, and Welsh literacy
