Dr. Nia Jones is a Lecturer in the School of History, Law and Social Sciences at Bangor University. She specializes in medieval British history with a focus on Welsh chronicle writing and the role of institutions like Cistercian monasteries. Her research explores how history was conceptualized and utilized to serve ethnic and political agendas in medieval Wales.
- Education: PhD in History (Bangor University, 2014), MSt in Medieval Studies (University of Oxford, 2010), BA in Anglo-Saxon/Norse/Celtic Studies (University of Cambridge, 2008)
Her current research centers on the Brut y Tywysogion, analyzing relationships between monastic institutions and Welsh rulers. She co-edits a volume synthesizing conference research and leads the Welsh Chronicles Research Group. Awards include the Bangor University Draper's Medal for exceptional postgraduate research (2014).
Recent publications include studies on Geoffrey of Monmouth's reception in Wales, the Welsh Historical Continuum, and Cistercian influences on chronicle production. She participates in interdisciplinary projects like 'The Search for Parity: Rulers, Relationships and the Remote Past in Britain's Chronicles (c. 1100-1300)' and organizes international scholarly events.
