Jenny Day is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies (CAWCS), University of Wales, since 2015. She teaches modules on Celtic literatures and Welsh praise poetry, including 'An Introduction to Celtic Literatures' (HPCS4005) and 'Welsh Praise Poetry' (HPCS5018), and supervises postgraduate students.
- PhD in Medieval Welsh Poetry (Aberystwyth University)
- BA, MA, and PhD in relevant disciplines
Her research focuses on medieval Welsh poetry and prose as historical sources. Key areas include textual transmission, medieval warfare and weapons, and Welsh hagiography (saints' cults, adaptation of saints' lives). She specializes in analyzing how texts evolve through misinterpretation and adaptation across manuscripts and audiences.
Her recent work explores the prophetic poems of Merlin and Cistercian monastic estates through poetic evidence. Publications span topics from armor in Welsh poetry to the symbolic role of swords and shields in medieval Welsh culture.
Notably, she contributed to the 'Cult of the Saints in Wales' project by editing medieval saints' lives and to the 'Flood and Flow' project analyzing water-related place-names. Her expertise aligns with Celtic studies, textual criticism, and medieval cultural history.
