Ngoc Son Bui is a Professor of Asian Laws at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law and a Fellow of St Hugh's College, Oxford. His academic journey includes LLB and LLM degrees from Vietnam National University-Hanoi, followed by a PhD from The University of Hong Kong. Previously, he held roles as an Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a research fellow at the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Asian Legal Studies. He has also held visiting positions at institutions including Chulalongkorn, Harvard, and Tsinghua Law Schools.
His research focuses on comparative and constitutional law in Asia, particularly in jurisdictions influenced by socialist and Confucian traditions. Key contributions include books such as *Legal Reform in the Contemporary Socialist World* (Oxford UP, 2024) and *Confucian Constitutionalism in East Asia* (Routledge, 2016). He co-edits volumes on Asian Comparative Constitutional Law and serves on the editorial boards of the *Asian Journal of Comparative Law* and the *Indian Law Review*.
Ngoc Son Bui’s scholarship explores themes like socialist constitutional identity, discursive constitutionalism, and the global origins of Vietnam’s constitutions. His work bridges legal theory and practice, emphasizing Asia-Pacific perspectives in constitutional studies. Recent articles address cybersecurity law in socialist Asia, Russia’s constitutional amendments, and China’s material constitution.
His edited works include *The Law and Politics of Unconstitutional Constitutional Amendments in Asia* (Routledge, 2022) and *Constitutional Foundings in Southeast Asia* (Hart, 2019). He has contributed to over 40 journal articles and 25 book chapters, reflecting his expertise in constitutional making, legal globalization, and Confucian legal traditions.
