Professor Nevil Quinn is a Professor in Applied Hydrology at the University of the West of England (UWE), affiliated with the Faculty of Environment and Technology's Geography and Environmental Management department. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Hydrology Research and previously coordinated the UK Droughts and Water Scarcity Programme. His expertise spans hydrology, water resource management, flood risk assessment, and water law, particularly in African contexts.
He holds a BSc (Hons) in Hydrology, a PhD in Environmental Hydrology (University of Natal, South Africa), and an LLM in Environmental Law. Professional credentials include Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), and membership in multiple institutions (MIEnvSc, MCIWEM, AMICE).
Research interests focus on flood risk management, socio-ecological systems (SES) theory, transboundary water policy, and wetland conservation. Recent work examines atmospheric patterns influencing precipitation and drought in Great Britain, resilience of infrastructure to flooding, and hydropower optimization.
Key achievements include developing environmental management frameworks in South Africa and contributing to global drought resilience strategies. He is actively involved in education initiatives to bridge academia and industry in environmental science.
