Neil Foley is a Professor and Robert H. and Nancy Dedman Chair in History at Southern Methodist University (SMU), affiliated with the Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. He serves as Associate Director of the Clements Center for Southwest Studies. Foley holds a Ph.D., two M.A.s, and a B.A. in History-related fields from prestigious universities. His research focuses on immigration, race, and transnational identity in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, with notable works like Mexicans in the Making of America and The White Scourge. He has received numerous awards, including Pulitzer Prize nominations and Fulbright Senior Scholarships. Foley has taught globally, including in Mexico, Germany, Spain, Japan, and aboard U.S. Navy carriers.
His teaching spans U.S. history, civil rights, and transnational studies. Key honors include the Frederick Jackson Turner Book Prize and Guggenheim Fellowship. His grants and fellowships reflect interdisciplinary and international engagement, such as the 2023 Université Paris Cité Mobility Grant and a 2021-2022 Fulbright at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
