Dr. Neil Buchanan is a Teaching Professor and Programme Director of the MSc Performance Psychology at the University of Edinburgh's Moray House School of Education and Sport. He holds academic affiliations with the Institute for Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences (ISPEHS) and the Human Performance Science Research Group. His roles include leading undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Applied Sport Science and Performance Psychology.

Research Focus: Neil’s work centers on adaptive expertise, psychological detachment in performance contexts, identity theory, and the development of naturalistic decision-making. He also explores behavioral change, self-regulation, and coach-athlete dynamics in applied settings.
Professional Experience: Neil has held teaching roles at North East Scotland College and Robert Gordon University, where he developed the BSc Sport Coaching program. He also provided performance psychology consultancy in motor sport and corporate coaching in Orlando, Florida. His practical experience includes supporting athletes in golf and motor sport through Peak Performance Sports.
