Dr. Negusse Kitaba is a Senior Research Fellow in Bioinformatics/Epigenetics at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Medicine since 2020. Previously, he held a Research Fellowship in Epigenetics at the Faculty of Biological Sciences (2017–2020) and worked as a Bioinformatics Scientist II at PhoreMost Ltd in Cambridge (2017).
He holds a BSc in Biological Science (1999) and an MSc in Biodiversity (2006) from Addis Ababa University, an MSc in Bioinformatics (2010) from Cardiff University, and a PhD in Computational Biology (2015) from the University of South Wales. His research focuses on epigenetic mechanisms linking parental environmental exposures (e.g., paternal smoking, maternal diabetes) to offspring health outcomes through multi-omic data integration, including DNA methylation, SNP analysis, and protein-protein interaction networks.
Kitaba’s work contributes to understanding transgenerational effects of lifestyle factors on complex diseases such as asthma, obesity, and cardiovascular disorders. He collaborates across disciplines in projects like the Rhinessa EWAS and UPBEAT Diabetes UK initiatives. His expertise spans bioinformatics tools for gene regulation analysis and pathway modeling.
Notable affiliations include the Institute of Developmental Sciences and Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine research groups at Southampton. Though no awards are listed, his projects have been supported by Diabetes UK and the University Hospital Southampton.
