Professor Neelika Jayawardane teaches English at SUNY Oswego while serving as Research Associate at University of Johannesburg's Centre for Race, Gender & Class. Her transnational scholarship examines visual culture and power dynamics across postcolonial contexts.
Research Focus: Professor Jayawardane's interdisciplinary work focuses on: (1) Photography as historical evidence and resistance; (2) Representation politics in media and art; (3) Transnational implications of imperialism; and (4) Ethics of visual documentation in conflict zones. Current projects include Afrapix collective studies and Sri Lankan civil war photography.
