Dr. Neda Atanasoski is a Professor and Chair of the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, and serves as Associate Director of Education for the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute (AIM). Previously, she held roles at UC Santa Cruz, including Professor of Feminist Studies and founding co-Director of the Center for Racial Justice. Her interdisciplinary research bridges critical race theory, feminist science studies, and AI ethics, focusing on technology's intersections with racial capitalism and militarism.
Education: Ph.D. in Literature and Cultural Studies from UC San Diego. Research expertise spans decolonial feminisms, postcolonial studies, and visual culture. She has authored/co-authored major works such as Surrogate Humanity and Humanitarian Violence, and co-edited Technocreep and Postsocialist Politics.
Awards include Mellon and Luce Foundation grants, Hellman Fellowship, and UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship. She serves on the editorial board of Critical Ethnic Studies and has held visiting professorships at institutions like the University of Bonn and UC Irvine.
Key projects include exploring AI ethics through a feminist lens, analyzing technology’s 'creep' into intimate spaces, and redefining postsocialist politics through decolonial frameworks. Her work critiques racialized systems in tech, surveillance capitalism, and militarized humanitarianism, advocating for equitable technological futures.
