Dr. Ned Hartfiel is a Research Fellow in the School of Health Sciences at Bangor University, affiliated with the Centre for Health Economics and Medicines Evaluation (CHEME). He holds a PhD in Health Economics from Bangor University (2012–2016), focusing on the cost-effectiveness of yoga interventions for musculoskeletal conditions. His work emphasizes social return on investment (SROI) analysis, particularly in public health and prevention initiatives across sectors and life courses.
Research interests include health economics, public health innovation, mental health interventions, dementia care economics, and musculoskeletal disorder management. He has contributed to projects evaluating green social prescribing, workplace wellness programs, and preventive healthcare strategies. Recent studies analyze the economic impact of nature-based activities, dementia home exercise programs, and multi-agency support for care leavers.
Key activities include consultancy for the Healthy Back Programme (since 2011), an eight-week yoga-based intervention for occupational stress and musculoskeletal health. He collaborates on national initiatives like the 'Opening Doors to the Outdoors' program, assessing environmental health benefits. His work bridges economic evaluation with behavioral science, emphasizing sustainable healthcare solutions.
Current projects focus on valuing preventive care through SROI frameworks, including counseling for sight loss and diabetes prevention. His research portfolio reflects interdisciplinary approaches to health policy, sustainability, and cross-sector collaboration in public health.
