Nathan Wood is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of History at the University of Kansas. His research focuses on 19th-20th century Eastern Europe, particularly Poland, examining themes like urbanization, transportation technologies, and cultural history. He holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University (2004).

Research explores interactions between industrialization, urbanization, and national identity. Key projects include studies on Cracow’s urban selfhood and Poland’s Age of Speed (1885–1939), supported by grants from Fulbright-Hays, ACLS, and IREX. His book Becoming Metropolitan: Urban Selfhood and the Making of Modern Cracow (2010) analyzes early 20th-century press representations of urban life.
Teaching includes courses on modern European history, the Great War, and Eastern European communism. He received the W.T. Kemper Teaching Award (2010) and serves as a Faculty Fellow for the KU Honors Program.
