Piotr Puchalski

Piotr Puchalski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Contemporary History & Historical Education at the University of the National Education Commission in Kraków, Poland. His academic work focuses on modern history with particular expertise in Polish colonial policies, international relations, and 20th century geopolitical developments.

His research interests include Polish colonial and nationality policies, evolution of the international system in the 20th century, Polish history in a global perspective, contemporary history of Western nations, diplomatic history, Jewish emigration patterns, Poland's geopolitical importance, and the relationship between the Polish People's Republic and African decolonization processes.

Puchalski's scholarly output is highlighted by his book Poland in a Colonial World Order: Adjustments and Aspirations, 1918-1939 (Routledge, 2022), which won the Second Prize in the History Contest for the best foreign-language publication promoting Poland's history, sponsored by Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has also contributed to The World Beyond the West: Perspectives from Eastern Europe (Berghahn Books, 2022) and published articles in the Historical Journal and the Journal of Modern European History.
