Dr Natalie Capel is a Lecturer in Chemical Sciences at the Lennard-Jones School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, Keele University. She serves as Admissions Tutor for Chemistry programmes and specializes in chemical education and organic chemistry research.
- Lecturer: 2019–present
- Teaching Fellow: 2016–2019
- University Teacher at Loughborough University: 2014–2016
Education:
- BSc in Chemistry and Sports Science (2007–2011)
- MSc in Pharmaceutical Science and Medicinal Chemistry (2011–2014)
- PhD in Organic Chemistry (2015): "Novel synthetic routes towards the anti-inflammatory mediator resolvin E1, and methodology development"
Her research focuses on organic synthesis methodologies and chemical education innovations. Key contributions include synthetic routes for resolvin E1 and pedagogical strategies like Team-Based Learning (TBL) to enhance student problem-solving skills.
Her publications span synthetic organic chemistry (Organic Letters, ACS Omega) and educational practices in chemistry, reflecting a dual commitment to advancing both research and teaching excellence.
Scientific Awards:
- Royal Society of Chemistry Team Prize for Excellence in Higher Education (2021)
- AdvanceHE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) (2022)
She has taught across all undergraduate levels, covering topics from chemical calculations to advanced NMR spectroscopy and drug design, while supervising chemistry/medicinal chemistry research projects.
