Dr. Nasima Akhter is an Associate Professor of Public Health at the School of Health and Life Sciences, Teesside University, with over 20 years of experience in observational and experimental research. She specializes in public health, focusing on health inequalities, child and maternal nutrition, migrant health, and non-communicable diseases. Previously affiliated with Durham University and Helen Keller International Bangladesh, she has led interdisciplinary teams and contributed to global health initiatives with organizations like WHO and UNHCR. She holds a PhD from UCL Institute for Global Health (2013), researching the impact of global food price crises on nutrition in Nepal.
Her research interests include evaluating interventions, food security, and South Asian health in the UK. She currently serves as a reviewer for journals like BMJ Public Health and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and sits on review panels for UKRI and NIHR. She supervises PhD students across topics like neonatal care, migration, and maternal health in Bangladesh.
