Dr Narrelle Morris is an Associate Professor at Curtin Law School, affiliated with Curtin University's Faculty of Business and Law. She previously held roles as Deputy Head of School (2022-2024) and Course Lead of Law (2019-2024). Her research focuses on war crimes, international criminal law, and Western-Japanese relations, with a particular emphasis on Australia’s post-WWII war crimes trials. She completed her PhD at Murdoch University and has held positions at the Melbourne Law School (2009-2013).
Her major projects include the Australia Research Council-funded Australia’s Post-World War II War Crimes Trials of the Japanese (published in 2024 as Volume 1 of the Law Reports Series), and a DECRA Award-funded study on Sir William Flood Webb. She authored Japan-bashing: Anti-Japanism since the 1980s (2010) and co-edited Australia’s War Crimes Trials 1945-51 (2016), which was shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Prize in Australian History.
Her work bridges legal history, international law, and archival studies, with contributions to understanding post-war justice systems, historical memory, and Western perceptions of Japan. She has received awards including the Ian Maclean Award (2011-12), Curtin Business School recognitions, and Dean's Research Prizes.
Her publications span law reviews, historical analyses, and pedagogical guides like Clear and Precise Writing Skills for Today's Lawyer (2021). She teaches legal research, statutory interpretation, and writing across undergraduate and graduate levels.
