Dr. Naomi Brooks is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sport at the University of Stirling. She joined the university in 2012 after completing her PhD at Ohio University and postdoctoral work in the US and South Africa. As Programme Director for the Sport and Exercise Science UG program, she leads initiatives promoting equality and inclusion. Her research focuses on physical activity’s role in health, skeletal muscle physiology (including satellite cells and atrophy mechanisms), and community-based interventions in low-resource settings. She pioneered the Daily Mile initiative, improving children’s fitness and cognition, and leads a UK-South Africa doctoral training program.
Brooks holds external examiner roles at the University of Essex and is affiliated with research groups like the Healthy Ageing in Scotland (HAGIS) and SPARKLE. Her work bridges laboratory research with applied community health, addressing global health disparities through capacity-building in lower-income regions.
