Naomi Bailis is an Associate Professor of Dance at Berklee College of Music's Conservatory, where she teaches physical theater, acting for dancers, clowning, and masks in the contemporary and commercial dance programs and the circus arts minor. She also teaches acting in the Theater Division for both contemporary theater and musical theater students. Prior to joining Berklee in 2022, she enjoyed a 20-year distinguished career on the theater faculty at Walnut Hill School for the Arts.
Her educational background includes:
- MFA in Theatre Performance from University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (1997)
- Graduate Certification in Theatre from Circle in the Square Theater School (1990)
- BA in Theatre from University of Delaware (1987)
Bailis is an accomplished theater educator specializing in multiple acting techniques including Michael Chekhov, Meisner, mask work, and clowning. Her teaching philosophy centers on collaboration and unleashing creative potential through individualized approaches with exquisite attention to detail. She has directed nearly 30 full-scale theatrical productions across professional, collegiate, and high school levels.
Her recent directing work demonstrates a commitment to theatrical innovation with productions ranging from classical adaptations to contemporary works addressing gender identity. Her approach often incorporates unique elements like lip-sync musical adaptations, showing her dedication to pushing theatrical boundaries while maintaining strong connections to text and character.

Bailis has mentored numerous successful students who have gone on to appear in Broadway productions, major television shows, and films. Through her private studio in the Boston area, she offers specialized workshops in mask technique, clowning, Meisner, and other acting methodologies to actors at various career stages.
