Nancy J. Uscher is the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and a Professor of Music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She leads academic and artistic operations, overseeing departments, galleries, and performance venues. Her career spans academia, performance, and administration.
- Education: B.A. in Music from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester; M.A. in Music from SUNY Stony Brook; Ph.D. from New York University; Certificate of Advanced Study and A.R.C.M. from Royal College of Music; studied at The Juilliard School.
Her research and professional interests include Music Education, Academic Leadership, and Interdisciplinary Arts. She has authored two books and numerous articles for music publications, reflecting her scholarly engagement with music pedagogy and institutional development.
As an administrator, she has held leadership roles at UNLV, Cornish College of the Arts, California Institute of the Arts, and the University of New Mexico, where she contributed to curriculum design, diversity initiatives, and interdisciplinary programs. She also taught in the Women's Studies program at UNM.
Uscher’s international career as a violist included six years as co-principal violist with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and performances across six continents. Her recordings of Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, and Hindemith highlight her artistic contributions.
